Carpet Maintenance and Care
Routine Care
Vacuuming can remove dirt that dulls appearance.
Select a vacuum with good suction and strong beater bars, which brush the carpet and loosen dirt.
Change vacuum bags and filters regularly.
Pile shading or flattening of carpet is a natural occurrence and not a manufacturing fault.
Long-term Care
If cared for properly your carpet will provide you with years of comfort and beauty. Here are some strategies for minimizing the wear and tear of everyday living:
Spot Treatment
Clean up spills promptly.
Use a quality stain removing product and follow directions explicitly.
Professional Cleaning
Get your carpets professionally cleaned at least every 12 months, even if you clean them yourself in between.
Lighter shade carpet may require cleaning more often. Professional cleaning methods include steam cleaning (known as hot water extraction), absorbent pad or bonnet cleaning, rotary shampoo, and dry foam powder.Hardwood Floor Maintenance and Care
As with any form of floor covering, a wooden floor must be regularly cleaned and maintained in accordance with certain basic recommendations. It is a natural product and therefore can be vulnerable to misuse. The most important thing to remember is to avoid excessive moisture.
Gravel, dirt and grit and sharp objects can cause lasting damage to hardwood floors. All manufacturers recommend an effective doormat both outside and inside your front door, to stop trafficking in dirt and grit. Although the floor finish is tough and durable, to minimise scratches it is recommended that shoes are not worn on the floor, instead slippers are recommended. Stiletto heels will damage wood if rubber heel pads are worn or missing as will animal claws if not carefully groomed and maintained.
Seasonal variations in room temperature and humidity may cause natural wooden flooring to shrink or move slightly during the course of its long life. Most of such movement will occur within the first few months after installation as the pre-conditioned timber adjusts to your own room's temperatures and humidity. This helps create the traditional appearance characteristic of hard wood flooring.
Laminate Floor Maintenance
It's hard to damage and easy to care for laminate floors. Here are some tips on how to properly maintain them:
Carefully read the warranty and care instructions provided for your flooring. Follow them as much as you can and refer to them if a problem develops.
Don't wet-mop laminate floors, because puddles could seep behind baseboards and under your floor, damaging them. Only vacuum and then damp-mop them.
Don't ever apply wax or acrylic floor finishes.
Use only the stain-removal products recommended by the flooring manufacturer.Typical suggestions in product literature are: acetone, for cigarette burns and nail-polish spills, and mineral spirits for grease and tar.
Put easy-glide protective buttons on the feet of the furniture.
Take common-sense precautions to protect your floor when working with sharp or heavy objects. For example, put down a thick tarp or a carpet scrap to protect the laminate floor when moving furniture or doing any repairs to the ceiling and walls.
